Drinking alcohol during company organized/sponsored social events is usually permitted by drug-free workplace policies. However, just because employees are “off the clock” doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want at these events. Nor does it mean that an employer can’t be held liable for something an “off the clock” employee does at these events. Your drug-free workplace program should be able to offer guidance to both you and your employees about what is and isn’t allowed.
